As shown, the kidney has the longest wait time, meaning that kidney transplants are in high demand. If synthetic kidneys were utilized instead of human transplants, many lives could be saved because it takes less time, and the waiting list moves faster.

This diagram displays the costs of organ transplants in the United States. The organs listed are also available to be grown in lab, which means that synthetic organs are a much cheaper option.
